10 Sean Connery Movies Everyone Should See

This isn’t necessarily a “Best Of” list or even a list of all my personal favorites, as some of an actors best performances don’t come in their best received movies.

Sean Connery starred in over 60 films, so my goal here is to offer up a list of films that would give a solid representation of his career.

1. The Untouchables -1987

     This was a supporting role for Connery in a movie with a pretty strong cast (Robert DeNiro, Kevin Costner, Andy Garcia) and he outshines everyone. It was also an Oscar winning performance.

2. From Russia With Love -1963

     This was the second film to feature Connery as 007 and he owns it. While ‘Dr. No’ was good, this one was just better.

3. A Fine Madness – 1966

     It’s one of the rare examples of Connery playing a really unlikable character. In the midst of his Bond years, he could’ve continued to take hero roles. However, this movie has him playing a struggling poet and unfaithful husband who ends up being institutionalized.

4. The First Great Train Robbery – 1979

     Sean Connery plays a master thief in this fun heist movie set in the 1850’s.

5. Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade – 1989

     This is arguably the most fun of the Indiana Jones films. The dynamic between Sean Connery and Harrison Ford adds some great comedic moments to this action-adventure.

6. Marnie – 1964

     Fresh off of 2 Bond movies and with ‘Goldfinger’ to come out later that year, this pairs Sean Connery up with Tippi Hedren in a suspenseful, underrated Hitchcock masterpiece.

7. The Rock – 1996

     This isn’t just a fun movie but it also showed that even though he was getting older he could still be a badass.

8. The Offence – 1972

     It’s an interesting movie about a police officer who has spent years investigating horrific crimes. Then one evening he snaps and kills someone he’s interrogating.

9. Goldfinger – 1964

     It’s often regarded as one of, if not the, best Bond movie. That alone makes it worth checking out.

10. The Hunt For Red October – 1990

       It’s a big name cast highlighted by Connery who, amazingly, is a completely believable Soviet submarine captain even though he doesn’t even attempt to use a Russian accent.
