10 Arnold Schwarzenegger Movies Everyone Should See

   Similar to my ’10 Sean Connery Movies Everyone Should See’ and '10 John Travolta Movie Should See' this isn’t meant to be a ‘best of’ list or a ranking based on whether or not the critics liked these, as some of an actor’s most memorable performances don’t come in their best received movies.This is more of an overview of some of the films that I think best represent Arnold Schwarzenegger's career.

1) Total Recall -1990
This is one of the really great Schwarzenegger movies. It's an awesome sci-fi film, with some really good action.

2) Last Action Hero -1993
This one is more of a guilty pleasure movie. It's not all that great, but it is a cool idea for a movie and Arnold is good in it. Definitely one of my favorite so-bad-it's-good films.

3) Conan The Barbarian - 1982
During the 80's and 90's there was no bigger action star than Schwarzenegger basically where it really started. Sure, Arnold was is in a couple movies like 'Hercules in New York's and the documentary 'Pumping Iron' prior to this film, but this was his first big successful starring role.

4) Twins - 1988
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito are twins from an experimental pregnancy which resulted in one of them being smart and athletic and the other . It's sounds ridiculous, but it's a lot of fun.

5) Kindergarten Cop -1990
This is the movie that figured out the magic formula that blends Schwarzenegger’s likeability, with a silly but not too off the wall plot, and mixes in some good comedy to make a really solid family movie.

6) True Lies - 1994
This is it. The mountains peak. Schwarzenegger's last great action movie. After this the action one-liners and stupid plots reach critical mass. The skill of writer/director James Cameron was able to take this action film to the edge of ridiculous without jumping off.

7) Predator - 1987
Schwarzenegger and a team of soldiers are on rescue mission in Guatemala but things take a turn for the worse when they start being hunted by an alien. This a pumped up, badass movie with the added bonus of Carl Weathers.

8) Maggie -2015
Post-Governor Schwarzenegger hasn't had any big successes, so my initial expectations for this more dramatic role were not very high. Surprisingly, it's not half bad.

9) Terminator -1984
This Sci-fi action classic still holds up as a really great movie and, for my money, it's still the best of the Terminator films. Everytime you see a bad Terminator sequel remember you can always go back and watch one of the good ones.

10) Batman & Robin -1997
No, I'm not arguing that this movie is good. Far from it. Schwarzenegger plays Mr. Freeze and almost all of his dialogue is made up of terrible ice puns 'Chill', 'Let's kick some Ice', 'Ice to see you' etc. It's actually so bad that it's incredibly entertaining.


Honorable Mentions: Eraser (1996), Commando (1985), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)


*And whatever you do, don't watch 'Junior'.
