Before a run of terrible sequels there were two awesome Terminator movies. It's debatable which of those first two is better, but I personally prefer 1984's The Terminator over Terminator 2: Judgment Day. (This one was also on my '10 Arnold Schwarzenegger Movies everyone Should See' list, which you can check out by clicking here)
For those unfamiliar with the premise, Arnold Schwarzenegger stars a the title character, a cyborg assassin known as the Terminator. In the future there is a war between humans and machines and the Terminator has been sent back in time to kill the mother of the humans leader before he's ever born.
The humans send someone of their own, named Kyle Reese (played by) to protect Sarah. There's some solid action scenes, Kyle has a hard time convincing people he's actually from the future as you'd expect and, of course, Kyle and Sarah become romantically involved because running from killer robots really gets people going. In the end, the Terminator is defeated, with Kyle dying in the process.
Unlike some of the other films in the franchise, this one is more of a sci-fi/horror than the more action packed sequels. Also, with Schwarzenegger being the villan in this one, there aren't all of those (often cringe worthy) comedic moments.
Overall, I give it a 4.5 out of 5.
